What is Tzitzit and the significance of wearing it?

As you begin to read the Bible for yourself, you will discover so many things you were never taught in church. In the Torah, we learn about Tzitzit. God says to Moses in

Numbers 15
“Speak to the people of Isra’el, instructing them to make, through all their generations, Tzitzit on the corners of their garments, and to put with the Tzitzit on each corner a blue thread. What are Tzitzit you ask? Well, they are tassels worn at the four corners of a robe, prayer shawl, or other clothing signifying your faith and observance of YHWH’s directive to Moses for all generations of all His people. You will observe that they are specially knotted ritual fringes, or tassels, usually attached to the four corners of a prayer shawl. Some men might wear them on their belt buckles as well. You can search on YouTube to find out how to make your own. Remember the story of the woman with an issue of blood in Matthew 9? You might have read this story before and totally missed the Tzitzit in the story because you weren’t taught what they were.

Matthew 9
A woman who had a hemorrhage for twelve years approached Yeshua from behind and touched the Tzitzit on his robe. For she said to herself, “If I can only touch his robe, I will be healed.” Yeshua turned, saw her, and said, “Courage, daughter! Your trust has healed you.” And she was instantly healed.

Some versions say fringe rather than Tzitzit. But now, you see, it was there all along.

What is Tzitzit?

Have you ever noticed the little fringes on the corners of some prayer shawls? They are called Tzitzit, and they hold great significance for the Jews and Messianic followers. In this blog post, we’ll take a look at what Tzitzit represent and why they are important to Jewish tradition. We’ll also see how these beautiful fringes can be incorporated into our lives today as a reminder of God’s faithfulness. So grab your shawl and let’s get started!

Tzitzit are strings that are tied to the corners of a four-cornered garment

Tzitzit are not mystical but rather are symbols of our spiritual connection to God and are reminders to keep His commandments. The reminders can bring comfort and strength as we go through difficult times. The strings, which are attached to the 4 corners of a garment, offer a heavenly reminder that we should always keep God’s path close at hand. We can deepen our relationship with the Lord each time we tie or untie one of these strings—a small gesture for a great reward. Any time we have the chance to interact with our Tzitzit on and teach others is a blessing to share the story and truth.

The purpose of Tzitzit is to remind the wearer of God’s commandments

Tzitzit are a powerful reminder of God’s love and commandments, but also a symbol of faith. Any time we catch a glimpse of the fringe hanging from our clothes, we are encouraged to remember God’s will and humble ourselves in its presence. This practice of remembrance reminds us to choose righteousness and goodness in every situation and serve the Lord faithfully. May it be that the reminder of tzitzit helps guide us on our way to leading a life based on the principles which bring glory to His name!

How are Tzitzit made?

The Tzitzit is symbolic of a deep spiritual significance, as instructed in passages such as Numbers 15:38-40. When worn, the Tzitzit serves to remind its wearer of God’s commandments and to stay true to them. They are made from linen or wool and traditionally have blue in in them regardless of other colors – all symbolic references that speak of a life centered on holiness and purity. By wearing this memento, we can daily be empowered to live our lives with focus and integrity. Let us use the symbolism of the Tzitzit as not only a reminder of our commitment to God but to be a conversation starter to spread the Good News to others.

Tzitzit are worn by men and women alike, and they are often seen as a sign of religious devotion

Tzitzit are a sacred reminder to live a life of holiness and dedication to the ways of God. They encapsulate what it truly means to serve the Lord with all your heart, mind and soul. These garments, worn by both men and women in the Jewish and Messianic community, are a beautiful symbol of faithfulness and devotion. To show reverence for God is a great honor, and we should remember that everyone who wears Tzitzit can be proud of taking part in this wonderful tradition. They also remind us that we are all equal before God’s eyes, no matter our gender or background; as believers in His covenant, each one of us is ultimately blessed. Put these symbols of faith and commitment around you everywhere you go; let them serve as a reminder that God loves you unconditionally.

Just as the Israelites were admonished to observe God’s commandments by tying Tzitzit—strings with knots tied in them—to the corners of their garments, so we are also admonished to let God’s word be a “sign” or reminder on our hearts (Deuteronomy 6:8; 11:18). In Matthew 5-7, Jesus tells us that if we love Him, we will keep His commandments. When we wearTzitzit, it is a physical representation of our commitment to do just that. By wearing Tzitzit, not only are we reminding ourselves of God’s holy standard for our lives but we are also proclaimers of His truth (Isaiah 52:7). As followers of Yeshua our Messiah, let us study our Bibles diligently, repent when we fail, and turn back to the Father daily through prayer and communion with Him.

What a delightful thought!

I invite you to search the Truth yourself. Test it. (1 Thessalonians 5:21)

Please go to your Bible and study the entire story. See firsthand what His word says and what He wants to show you. I always check several versions to allow the Spirit to show me the difference and truth. I recommend you do the same.

Enjoy pondering that thought today!

God bless you
