Have you ever heard, “You will be known by your fruits?” Find out what the Fruits of the Spirit are and why you need to have them.
Often, as faith-filled believers of Yeshua our Messiah, we can get so caught up in doing things for God that we forget to develop the spiritual fruit that should be evident in our lives. This is a problem because without these fruits, our actions mean nothing. We may go through the motions of living for the Father, but if we don’t have love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control; then what good are we really doing? This list of fruits comes from Galatians 5:22-23 and it’s important to understand what each one looks like in our day-to-day lives. Let’s take a closer look at each fruit and how we can make sure we’re bearing them in our own lives.
You will be known by your fruits – what does that mean?
When Jesus said “you will be known by your fruits”, He was emphasizing the importance of identity and how naturally our identity has a large impact on who we are. It is a reminder that before we can serve others we need to focus on building a relationship with God. As our identity shifts to become more like Him, it will lead to great and fruitful relationships in all areas of life. All of this starts with developing an identity that is rooted in God’s love and grace, leading to different ways of expressing ourselves in our service to others. Bearing fruit is not just something we do when we have time leftover from other activities – it should be a fundamental part of our identity as followers of Yeshua our Messiah!
The Fruits of the Spirit
As believers, we pray to seek God’s guidance and answers, to live a life that is pleasing in His sight. We must remember that the Fruits of the Spirit come from God alone, and when our souls are filled with His love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control it is easier to accept truth and act on it. With all this said, it takes practice with the help of the Holy Spirit to consistently display these qualities in our lives. As we pray for God’s help and receive His guidance we can continue practicing the Fruits of the Spirit until they remain at the forefront of our lives.
Why you need to have the Fruits of the Spirit in your life
When you strive to have the Fruits of the Spirit in your life, you are taking steps to reach your full potential for which God has created you to be. Yeshua promised that when we obey His teachings, He guides us, and if we allow the Holy Spirit to overflow from our hearts, we will find the fruits within us. Therefore, if you open yourself to God’s grace and live by His divine Word through faith in Yeshua our Messiah and His anointing by the Holy Spirit- you will experience a richness of life which produces an abundance of happiness and fulfillment.
How to cultivate the Fruits of the Spirit in your life
Cultivating the Fruits of the Spirit in our lives is a lifelong process that requires trust, faith, and a willingness to put God first. Yeshua instructs us to practice being kind, gentle, and full of love by looking to Him for guidance and wisdom. Learning how His words speak into our lives takes daily study of His Word so that we can develop a firsthand relationship with Him. Taking intentional steps towards reflecting His character will no doubt help us strive in making God the center of our lives and prioritizing Him above all else. The Holy Spirit will give us strength to seek the His Fruits as a way of life when we depend on Him for all our needs.
The Bible is clear that we will be known by our fruits. What kind of fruit are you bearing? Are they the fruits of the Spirit, or something else? If you want to bear good fruit, then you need to start with repentance and a turning back to God. Then, study His Word diligently. As you learn more about who He is and what He desires for your life, it will become easier and easier to cultivate the Fruits of the Spirit in your own heart. May the Lord help us all to bear much fruit for His glory!
Matthew 7
Yeshua says, “Beware of the false prophets! They come to you wearing sheep’s clothing, but underneath they are hungry wolves! You will recognize them by their fruit. Can people pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise, every healthy tree produces good fruit, but a poor tree produces bad fruit. A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, or a poor tree good fruit. Any tree that does not produce good fruit is cut down and thrown in the fire! So you will recognize them by their fruit.
James 1
Having made his decision, he gave birth to us through a Word that can be relied upon, in order that we should be a kind of first-fruits of all that he created.
What are the fruits that Yeshua is referring too?
We read in Galatians 5
But the fruits of the Spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, humility, self control. Nothing in the Torah stands against such things.
So let’s take a test today.
Take a sheet of paper and write these down. Feel free to look them up in your Bible or BibleGateway.com. Write each one down on a separate line. Pray about it and do a self-check. If there are any where you are lacking pray for YHWH our Heavenly Father to help you master that area. It is possible to have all of these in your arsenal to tackle the enemies constant attacks. Feel free to teach this to others. Just remember, give grace yourself grace, and to others, as the Holy Spirit helps us master each of them in His timing for us.
