The Samaritan Woman and the Living Water

by | Did You Know

Yeshua said that everyone who drinks this water will never get thirsty again. What does that even mean?!?

Find out why this answer is very important to you.

Have you ever heard of the “living water? Once you taste it, you will never thirst again! There is water that we can see, touch and taste. Then there is the water that Yeshua the Messiah offers when we drink of it, our thirst is quenched for eternity. Sounds crazy, right?

In John chapter 4 we see the Samaritan woman’s surprise that a Jew would drink water she had drawn. To understand the story is to know that the Jews did not associate with Samaritans, And here is a Jewish man asking a Samaritan woman for water. After Yeshua engages in conversation with her and asks her for a drink of water, and she gets over her shock, He compares His water to hers.

Yeshua said, “Everyone who drinks this water will get thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I will give him will never be thirsty again! On the contrary, the water I give him will become a spring of water inside him, welling up into eternal life!”

Yeshua is telling her that what He has to offer will change her life for eternity. She had no idea that the water He was offering would change her life, rather than quench her thirst. The Father created us to crave a love that only He can fill. That hunger will escalate to a spiritual starvation until the Father reveals what is missing in your life:
– His word
– and truly submitting your life to Him.

He’s not looking for perfect church attendance and serving or leading church programs. He wants a close relationship with you. That can only be accomplished through spending quality time with Him reading His word and talking with Him. More great news, When you personally find His living water and have your first long drink, all you want to do is help as many people as possible find the well.

Revelations 7
“For the Lamb at the center of the throne will shepherd them, will lead them to springs of living water, and God will wipe every tear from their eyes.”

Revelations 21
And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and Omega,’ the Beginning and the End. To anyone who is thirsty I myself will give water free of charge from the Fountain of Life.

Revelations 22
Next, the angel showed me the river of the water of life, sparkling like crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb. The Spirit and the Bride say, ‘Come!’ Let anyone who hears say, ‘Come!’ And let anyone who is thirsty come— let anyone who wishes, take the water of life free of charge.”

Yeshua said that everyone who drinks this water will get thirsty again.

Yeshua said, “Everyone who drinks this water will get thirsty again.” (John 4:13) This is such an encouraging scripture for all of us women! Whether we are single or married, we will all go through seasons of “thirst” in our lives until we find His Living Water. Yeshua promises if we drink from the Living Water He provides, we will never be thirsty again! His love never fails and His grace is always sufficient. Drink up, ladies, and let’s encourage one another to keep drawing from the well of life that is Yeshua!

The woman at the well was a Samaritan. Why is that important to us?

In John 4, Yeshua meets a Samaritan woman at a well and speaks to her about Living Water. This woman was an unlikely recipient of Yeshua’s words – as Samaritans were looked down upon by the Jews. Yeshua wanted to show her, and us, that it’s not where you’ve come from, who you are, or what you’ve done that matters – instead it’s how far your faith can reach. Yeshua tells her that if she drinks the Living Water, she will never thirst again. His offer and grace is for everyone even the darkest sinners; He is throughout the whole Bible, weaving together stories of trust and faith to bring us the ultimate truth that He is the answer. Yeshua’s loving encounter with this woman at the well teaches us important lessons about trusting in Him no matter our background and circumstance. Let this encourage you that no matter what you have done, just like this women who had been with so many men, she was loved and being offered forgiveness and Living Water that would bring her joy that the men could never bring her.

She had been married five times and was currently living with a man

She had been married five times and was currently living with a man. God’s truth would bring her peace in this situation. God is always willing to offer forgiveness of her sins and provide His guidance, something that had been there the whole time no matter how many times she had married. God knows what is best for her and He will show her the answers if only she looks for Him in the Bible instead of worldly solutions. God has a plan for us all and He will give us the peace that we need when we seek Him first and drink the Living Water.

Yeshua said that everyone who drinks this water will get thirsty again.

It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life and forget what’s really important. Yeshua said that everyone who drinks this water will get thirsty again. In other words, we need to keep our priorities straight and focus on what matters most, Him, not the world. Fortunately, scripture provides guidance on how to live a meaningful life.

She was an outcast, but he spoke to her with respect

Yeshua was a revolutionary in His approach to those who were viewed by others as outcasts. He showed them respect, spoke truth and trusted that the power of faith would bind them together. We must seek to be like Yeshua and live with open minds and love all, no matter what society may say. Yeshua is our example that there is something greater than ourselves, and He can provide us with real answers in every difficult situation. The whole Bible is filled with Yeshua’s message of encouragement – if we put our trust in Him and live according to His truth, then even the toughest environments can be overcome with courage and hope.

He knew knew her sins and chose to stop and see her at the well

As Yeshua stepped up to the well, He knew full well of her sins and yet, instead of avoiding her like so many had done before, he made a conscious decision to stop and see her. He wanted to teach us how to love others, especially the unloveable ones. Yeshua’s forgiveness for our transgressions is as boundless as His everlasting love. Through Him, we are offered salvation from sin and eternal life of peace through the Living Water He provides us. This same forgiveness can be extended to us just as graciously if we but open our hearts in faithfulness to His Divine Word and accept the forgiveness that only He can offer.

He offered her Living Water

As Yeshua offered the woman of Samaria Living Water, He reminded her of His promise and the provision with which He can bless her. With His words, He opened her eyes to understand that Living Water is an ever-flowing stream that will never run dry, quenching our thirst for love, joy, and Shalom peace forever. May we not forget His generous offer and hold tight to every drop that comes down from above. For it is through Him that we find grace and mercy in abundance. To Him be all glory now and forevermore!

She went back to her community and told them about him

With a newfound joy in her heart, she returned home spreading the good news of her Savior, Yeshua. She wanted to share with others what He had done for her. Her salvation was not something she kept secret; it was a beautiful gift to be shared among her community. Reflecting on the power of His love, she implored each and every one of them to seek out a relationship with Yeshua because His grace is enough for all mankind. There is no better way to be encouraged and blessed than by drawing closer to your loving Redeemer, who gave us the ultimate gift of eternal life through belief in Him.

They came to see for themselves and they believed

They wanted to experience the joy they saw in the woman they knew was once so unhappy. They decided they were going to see and taste the Living Water for themselves. So they went, and they believed that they had found what they sought. The fear, grief, and sorrow they felt had shifted to a joy they could barely contain. Nothing compared to the feeling of being loved and accepted they felt when they experienced Yeshua and the Living Water firsthand. Just as Yeshua promised, their thirst was quenched, and they spread the Good News as well.

When we trust the Father, He always provides what we need. In this case, the woman at the well needed Living Water and Yeshua provided just that. He didn’t judge her or make her feel less than because of her status in society. Instead, He showed her compassion and respect. If you are struggling with mental health issues of any kind, know that God knows what you’re going through. You are not alone in this fight. Trust Him to provide what you need and offer His Living Water to those around you who also suffer from mental health issues.
