What is the abomination of desolation?
Today we learn about what Daniel the Prophet spoke about the end times for our world. Listen in and see what Yeshua said about the abomination of desolation when He was on earth. You will learn how it affects your life today.
Let’s begin in Matthew 24:15-28
The Abomination of Desolation
“The day is coming when you will see what Daniel the prophet spoke about—the sacrilegious object that causes desecration standing in the Holy Place.” (Reader, pay attention!) “Then those in Judea must flee to the hills. A person out on the deck of a roof must not go down into the house to pack. A person out in the field must not return even to get a coat. How terrible it will be for pregnant women and for nursing mothers in those days. And pray that your flight will not be in winter or on the Sabbath. For there will be greater anguish than at any time since the world began. And it will never be so great again. In fact, unless that time of calamity is shortened, not a single person will survive. But it will be shortened for the sake of God’s chosen ones. “Then if anyone tells you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah,’ or ‘There he is,’ don’t believe it. For false messiahs and false prophets will rise up and perform great signs and wonders so as to deceive, if possible, even God’s chosen ones. See, I have warned you about this ahead of time. “So if someone tells you, ‘Look, the Messiah is out in the desert,’ don’t bother to go and look. Or, ‘Look, he is hiding here,’ don’t believe it! For as the lightning flashes in the east and shines to the west, so it will be when the Son of Man comes. Just as the gathering of vultures shows there is a carcass nearby, so these signs indicate that the end is near.
Be careful to not let anyone take your focus off Yeshua our Messiah.
It says in 2 Thessalonians 2:3, let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come. Seducers will be more dangerous enemies than persecutors. All throughout the Bible true prophets were killed and false prophets rose up to try to take their place. Yeshua was crucified and false prophets jumped in and many have been lead astray.
Test everything you hear, even from me, test it against God’s word. If it contradicts the Bible, then toss that word out.
1 Thessalonians 5:21 says, test everything; hold fast to what is good.
Even the prophet Jeremiah speaks about the false prophets in Jeremiah 23:16, This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says to his people: “Do not listen to these prophets when they prophesy to you, filling you with futile hopes. They are making up everything they say. They do not speak for the Lord!
In the end times people will be grasping for hope and will cling to the loudest voices. That’s how the enemy will trick them with his false prophets and lure them away from the Truth.
If you are unsure how to know who is truth and who is false, test what they say and do against God’s Word, Deuteronomy 13:1-3 spells it out for you.
Have no doubt that our Heavenly Father has a plan that He is working that we can not see. He is calling up scary audacious faith in us to trust Him No matter the circumstances. Things may look grim now, but we must continue to trust Him and serve Him. Totally surrender to Him and follow Him through the desolation; regardless of the severity.
Remember, He is always with us. Matthew 28:20, We need not fear.
Only believing in Yeshua won’t get us to Heaven. Satan tempted Yeshua knowing full well who He was. He believed. Believing only in God the Father will not get you to Heaven either.
James 2:19 says, You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror.”
We must live our lives for Him, and surrender to Him on a daily basis. We must commit ourselves to follow His commandments. Living a life set apart, and holy. Following His commands does not mean we have to be perfect. It means that out of love and obedience to Him, it is our goal every day to follow His commands and in doing so, honoring him, above all else.
Let’s dig a little deeper…
“And when you see the abomination of desolation standing in the holy place, let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains…” -Matthew 24:15

So hang on tight and don’t give up hope!
What is the abomination of desolation spoken of by Daniel the prophet, and what does it mean for us today?
The abomination of desolation spoken of by Daniel the prophet is an event that finds its fulfillment in the New Testament. It refers to the destruction of Jerusalem and desecration of the temple during the Roman siege in 70 AD. While this may seem like something from a long time ago, it has scripture-based significance for us today. The ancient prophecy warns us against putting anyone or anything before our commitment to the Lord. It’s a powerful reminder that spiritual idols are still amongst us, and drives home to each of us that we need to remain rooted and grounded in our faith regardless of difficulty or temptation. Knowing what happened when disciples and Jews forfeited their adherence to God should encourage us not to make the same mistakes, so let us remain vigilant as we strive to serve Him with all our heart and soul!
How can we guard against this spiritual danger in our own lives, and protect our families from it as well?
Especially in these divisive times, it is so important to stay close to Christ, listen intently to the promptings of the Holy Spirit, and open our hearts and minds to hearing God’s word. We will find that He faithfully provides direction concerning day-to-day choices. If we truly wish to guard against spiritual danger, we must strive for a powerful connection with Christ. As parents, it is also our responsibility to lead by example – if we want to protect our families from spiritual harm, a strong spiritual foundation must be established through prayerful living. The Bible reminds us that “in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths” (Proverbs 3:6). By committing ourselves fully to following Jesus with joyous eagerness, and cultivating that same zeal in our children, together we can experience the fruitfulness of eternal salvation!
What are some practical steps we can take to keep our hearts and minds focused on God, even in the midst of difficult times or trials?”
As Messianic believers, it is natural to seek out ways to strengthen our spiritual health as well as physical. During trying times or hard trials we can remain unmoved in God’s love and faith by abiding in His word. By actively connecting with scripture through bible study, prayer and worship, this draws us closer to our Heavenly Father and connects us with important reminders about His goodness. Comfort and strength are always near when we remember to keep God’s will at the forefront of our hearts, minds, and thoughts. With these tangible steps that help keep our focus on Him no matter what may arise, we can walk closer together hand-in-hand with Christ as He is always ready to guide us faithfully home!
The abomination of desolation is a spiritual danger that we must be on guard against in our own lives and protect our families from. We can take practical steps to keep ourselves focused on God, even in the midst of difficult times or trials causing mental health issues, trusting the Father in all circumstances, turning back to Him when we stray, repenting when we sin, and studying His entire Word from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation.
Tune in next time as we learn what Jesus says about the coming of the Son of Man.
God bless you
