The Parable of Leaven explained
Now, let’s talk about the leavened bread. Incidentally – the leaven is yeast. When you add yeast to flour- it rises and expands.
He told them another parable. Matthew 13:33
“The kingdom of heaven is like leaven that a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, till it was all leavened.” He’s left us another super tiny treasure that has amazing gifts for us if we search it out. You see, hiding the leaven in the dough is like hiding the word in your heart.
Just as Mary did in Luke 2:51, it’s not to keep the word a secret but to keep it safe. She hid what was important and kept it safe so that it could grow and be profitable. Treasure the word in our hearts so that we may be sanctified, so to say, set apart, and be holy. The word in our hearts will ferment and grow as we learn more of what YHWH is teaching us.
Hebrews 4:12, For the word of YHWH is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Like a tiny bit of leaven in a lump of dough grows the bread. The bits of wisdom YHWH gives us in His word grow our knowledge and relationship with Him. Leaven works quickly as does YHWH’s word, and yet His word marinates in our souls. The Holy Spirit is so amazing causing the word to grow silently yet strongly, irresistibly, and without noise. The more someone gets to know our Messiah the more love and joy that he gives, then your metaphorical cup will be overflowing- this is why we spread our Father’s Gospel it comes naturally. Then watch Him turn the world upside down and change people’s hearts.
In Matthew 9:37, Yeshua says to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few…
Isaiah 6:8, And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.”
Let’s dig a little deeper in the lesson in the parable of the leaven
In the parable of the leaven, Yeshua tells a story of a woman who hides leaven in batter before it is baked. The lesson He wants us to learn from this story is a little bit of sin can creep into our lives and spread like a virus. Just the tiniest bit can be creep in and be hidden but move like a cancer quickly. We must work diligently to follow Him and to keep sin out of our lives. As women, we have a unique opportunity to be salt and light in our homes, workplaces, and communities. We should strive to be women of integrity who live according to God’s Word, so that we might be a positive influence on those around us and keep sin out of our lives as we teach other to do the same.
The Kingdom of Heaven is like leaven that a woman took and hid in three measures of flour
On the reverse of sin permeating like a virus, the flip side is Yeshua’s love can spread like wildfire as well, and be a good thing. The Kingdom of Heaven is a powerful truth that like leaven hidden in flour will eventually permeate and transform the entire dough. God’s word is living, breathing and active, penetrating the depths of our hearts, bringing us hope and joy. We don’t have to understand everything to believe – just take three measures of faithfulness and obedience, add a portion of God’s grace, and His Holy Spirit and be assured that no matter what lofty mountains or dark valleys we traverse in this life, His Word can never be hidden. Through truth spoken over time, the blessing of heaven will seep into our lives like blessed leaven and be a light to others.
Yeshua used this parable to teach his disciples about the Kingdom of God
Yeshua taught his disciples the importance of living a life devoted to serving the Kingdom of God through the parable of the leaven. He demonstrated how much effort and devotion it takes to cultivate a heart devoted to God, one capable of producing a harvest of hope amongst adversity. Even when faced with circumstances beyond our control, Yeshua wants us to remain optimistic as we persevere in faith, trusting in His loving embrace. By utilizing this parable, Yeshua continues to call out for His disciples today, challenging all who thrive in His love to challenge themselves by committing their lives anew to serving His Kingdom. Let us use this parable as an example to let His love permeate through us and use us for His glory.
The leaven represents something that is small but has a big impact
The Bible reminds us of the power of something small. In fact, the leaven is used in several stories to specifically demonstrate this truth. The miracle of the feeding of the five thousand people is an excellent example, with just a few loaves and fishes – accompanied by a tiny pinch of leaven – being enough to feed thousands. This remind us that even small amounts can make an impact, whether we use it to do good or bad things. Even though our tasks may appear small and insignificant at times, God can still use them for His glory when carried out with humility and faithfulness. So let us join together as believers and followers of Yeshua our Messiah and share His grace as we live out our lives through Him.
We should be like the leaven and have a positive impact on those around us
Scripture tells us in Matthew 13:33 that like the leaven, we too should use the gifts and talents God has given us to spread His love into our communities. Let us not underestimate the impact we can make. A smile, a kind word, an act of service—even small acts of kindness can leave behind a lasting impression in another’s life. We have the power to enrich our surroundings with goodness and thereby be used mightily by God in this world. As we set out each day with hearts ablaze for Him, let us remember our true mission: to be His light shining onto all those around us.
As we live our lives for Yeshua our Messiah, we will make a difference in the world
Although the world may seem daunting and full of trouble, as we make Yeshua our Messiah the center of our lives, we are filled with courage for the future. Living with Him gives us strength to create change in this world and embody His goodness. He has given us great abilities to humbly exert influence in each other’s lives and motivate others. As we seek Him and share His grace, it will cascade from heart to heart and make an immeasurable difference in those around us. Bearing beholders of sparkling kindness–born of the love shown by Yeshua–we can create a beautiful ripple effect for generations to come.
Just as a small amount of leaven has a big impact when mixed in with flour, our lives can have a great impact on those around us when we allow His light to shine through us. Yeshua told this parable to teach his disciples about the Kingdom of God, and it is still applicable to our lives today. As we go through life, let us be like the leaven and strive to make a positive difference in the world. If you are struggling today, remember that you can always trust the Father in all circumstances. Repent if you have strayed from him and turn back to him. And study the whole Bible from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation-it will change your life!
Are you ready?
God bless you.
