Why was Noah chosen to build the ark?
Today we are going to find out why God chose Noah to build the ark and how that relates to us today? So let’s park in Genesis 6:8-10 for a bit.
In verse 8 we read:
“But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.”
Imagine for a moment if you will, God regretting the entire human race, but finding favor in only you?!?
Head scratch moment…
There’s no way to wrap your head around the reality of that; it’s hard for the brain to process the thought. It goes on to say in verse 9,
“Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation.”
Noah was found to be the only righteous person in his generation. It never suggests that he was perfect. Righteous here meant that he wholeheartedly loved and obeyed God. Think of our planet today and how many people are most likely on it, and then think about how God could only find 1!!!
Wow! and then Boom, Noah’s sons are mentioned in verse 10. Scripture doesn’t say anywhere that Noah’s sons were also righteous, Just that he had 3 sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth.
Interesting fact: Genesis 5:32, says that
“Noah was 500 years old when he became the father to his 3 sons.”
It almost sounds like they were triplets, doesn’t it? The Bible does not confirm that one way or the other. How blessed were they though to be included in the plan for the ark, along with their wives, as stated later in verse 18? All of them were under the “covering of their father”, Noah. The only righteous one on earth. Does this sound familiar? Why yes it does.
Parallel message here:
Just like Noah’s family were under his covering of protection, we are under our Heavenly Father’s covering of protection when we are living in relationship with Him and obedience to His word.
“The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.” Psalms 34:7
“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.” Psalms 91:1, 4
Pretty cool parallel.
So Noah’s three sons and his wife and their’s were included in the ark-plan God had. What about the rest of Noah’s family? According to calculations, his father, Lamech died 5 years prior to the flood, but it says in Genesis 5:30, that Lamech had other sons and daughters. That would mean that all of Noah’s siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews and other family were excluded. God only chose Noah and his downline that he was responsible for.
We are descendants of Adam and Eve- but specifically, we are descendants of NOAH. If you have questions about whether you are under God’s covering of protection, stop and pray and dive into your Bible. God will show you.
Let’s dig deeper
I have often wondered why Noah was selected to build the ark. If you look at his life, it seems that he made some poor choices along the way. So, why did God choose him? The answer may surprise you. Let’s explore what the Bible says about Noah and how his story can encourage us today.
Noah was a righteous man who walked with God
Noah was not a perfect man by any means, but He was committed to Adonai to love and obey Him. He was a great example of how we can live a life pleasing to God. He always sought to do what was right and made sure his family followed the same path. Noah’s sacrifice was demonstrated in his commitment to follow God’s instructions, no matter the cost, including building an ark for the saving of mankind and all living creatures. His testimony of righteousness has been passed down through generations as a reminder that when we trust in the Lord and choose to display faith towards him, good things will come our way. Although at times it may seem hard or unfair, Noah’s story serves as an inspiring point of encouragement that those who walk with God shall be blessed beyond measure.
Noah had faith in God and was obedient to His commands
Noah was a man of faith and obedience who trusted in God’s promises. It was through his unwavering dedication to God that he was able to persevere during the flood when instructed to build an ark by God. Though he faced doubts and fears, Noah remained obedient and showed Adonai his loyalty by doing exactly as God commanded. He never once argued or wrestled with God over the plan; he simply obeyed. We are encouraged by this example that faith and obedience lead to peace with Adonai, as we trust in Him and tune out distractions, allowing His Will to prevail.
Noah was diligent in his work and took care of what he had been given
Noah was a prime example of diligence and care. He diligently followed the commands of the Lord even though his peers, who did not have faith in the Lord, laughed at him for doing so. He took great care of the resources that were put in his hands and did not let them go to waste. Through his obedience and dedication, we are reminded to not take life for granted but instead to use our lives as an opportunity to glorify God no matter what difficulties we may encounter along the way.
Because of these things, Noah was chosen
It is no surprise that God chose Noah for His plan in the time of the flood. Noah was a man of faith and humility, a devoted servant who walked blamelessly before God. He looked after his family as a wise provider and godly father should. God knew that Noah was honorable, trustworthy and obedient to His word, which made him the perfect choice to take on such a monumental task. Not only would he build the ark, but he would also be responsible for preserving life on earth and repopulating the world once again. Those aspects alone show us why God chose Noah above all others – his faithfulness had created an unshakable bond between himself and his Creator, thus making him worthy of such an incredible honor.
In a time when it feels like everything is going wrong and you can’t see any light at the end of the tunnel, remember Noah. He was a righteous man who walked with God. No matter what happened around him, Noah had faith in God and obeyed His commands. Noah was also diligent in his work and took care of what he had been given. Because of these things, Noah was chosen to build the ark and save humanity from the flood. Just as Noah was used because of his obedience, we can be used because of our obedience. no matter how difficult things might seem, Trust the Father in all circumstances, turn back to the Father, repent, and study the whole Bible from Genesis 1:1 to the last word in Revelation.
God bless you.
