Learning the Parable of the Mustard Seed
Matthew 13:31-32, Yeshua spoke this short and sweet parable in
We begin in verse 31
He put another parable before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his field. It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is larger than all the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.”
Don’t you just love how He drops these tiny nuggets like a lure on the water to see if we will bite and dig deeper to find out what He meant? So, with a simple internet search, you can find out that the mustard seed is the tiniest of all seeds yet it grows very large. Just like the seed is tiny and humble in its beginnings, The Father grows our faith from a tiny seed into enormous faith for us to share the gospel and grow the kingdom of Heaven.
Another way to say it, YHWH uses the small and weakest things in the world to make the most impact for Him. To maybe better clarify, let’s use me as an example here. YHWH has grown me so much over the last handful of years, but, I would still classify myself as small and of the weakest in the knowledge of Him and His word; compared to others in the faith. I love Him, there’s no question. But, He chose this little Daisy to spread the Gospel to you. This little seed is growing and learning every day but I stepped out in scary audacious faith as a weak little seed and said, “Yes,” when He said, “follow me.”
Remember in Matthew 4 when he started recruiting His 12 disciples, He simply said, Follow me. No interviews, no questions, and with no hesitations, They dropped everything and followed.
In Matthew 14:28-33
Peter saw Yeshua across the water in the storm and Yeshua said come to me. Peter was scared but with scary audacious faith stepped out and was the only disciple that dared. He was still scared, but it was ok. Yeshua took his hand. He was safe.
Let’s dig a little deeper…the lesson in the mustard seed parable
As women, we are often in pursuit of things that we think will make us happy and fulfilled. But what if the key to true happiness is something much simpler? In the mustard seed parable, Jesus teaches us that it is not our circumstances or possessions that determine our happiness, but rather our faith. This simple lesson can be life-changing when applied to our everyday lives. When we trust in God and His perfect plan for us, we can find contentment and peace regardless of our circumstances. So today, let us remember the lesson of the mustard seed and choose to have faith in God above all else. He will never let us down!
The mustard seed is one of the smallest seeds, but it grows into a large plant
Though it seems impossible, the mustard seed is an example of what can be accomplished through faith. We are reminded by scripture that even if we have just a little bit of faith, we can accomplish anything – “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move” (Matthew 17:20). The potential within the mustard seed is its reminder that with belief in something greater than ourselves, anything is possible. By putting our trust in something beyond us, the smallest things can lead to great things!
Yeshua used this parable to teach about faith – even a tiny bit of faith can grow and produce results
Yeshua was known throughout his ministry as a teacher of wisdom, and his parable about the mustard seed is no exception. The Father and Yeshua always taught simply, not over-complicating the process. Their yoke is light and easy, it is humans that complicate everything and make things harder than they have to be. As an example, salvation is simple, but the world makes us think we are unworthy, and can’t attain it unless we are perfect. That’s not what God’s Word says. That’s why it’s important to read the whole Bible to get the whole truth of His word to us.
Here Yeshua is trying to keep it simple to understand and do. He taught us that faith, small as it may seem, can be enough to produce results. This is an encouraging truth; no matter how little we have to offer when it comes to faith, Yeshua encourages us to start right where we are, because even a tiny bit of faith can grow and bear fruit if nurtured with trust in God. Let this be an inspiration for us to continue placing our hope in Him – even if it feels small right now – because our faith can bloom into something far greater than we ever imagined!
We need to have faith in God, even when things are tough or we don’t understand what He’s doing
In times of adversity and confusion, God gives us the strength to carry on through faith. It is often mysteriously true that while we ourselves may not know why certain things happen or how they will turn out, we can remain confident in the knowledge that with God all things are possible. He knows our innermost needs and is ready to help us if we call out to him. Ecclesiastes 3:11 tells us: “Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.” Despite our doubts or anxieties about today, yesterday or tomorrow, our faith in God can help guide us towards a better future rejoicing in His blessings.
When we trust God, He will help us overcome any obstacles in our lives
We are never alone, no matter what we encounter in life. When we turn to God and take everything to Him in prayer, He will help us through the most difficult times. In His word, it says “I can do all things because of the Messiah who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13). We find strength when we turn our trust and reliance over to Him – He will direct us down paths of righteousness, carry us during trying times, and bless us with comfort and hope. When we have faith that God will work with us to overcome any obstacle or situation, we should also remember that He works in mysterious ways. What may seem like a setback at the time may actually be part of a broader plan from God – one that ultimately leads to something better than what could have been imagined before.
This parable can encourage us to have hope when things seem impossible – with God, anything is possible!
One of the most important lessons we can learn from Yeshua’s parable of the mustard seed is that, no matter how overwhelming our current situation may feel, with God, anything is possible! In Luke 17:6 Yeshua proclaims that if you have faith as small as a mustard seed you can say to this mountain, “Move from here to there” and it will move. Yet even when we lack the immense faith demonstrated in this parable, we can still trust in Him for He knows each of us intimately and eagerly awaits us to reach out to Him in prayer. With His strength, courage and assurance by our side anything is possible, including miraculous turnarounds. Encouraged through scripture and inspired by His Holy word let us boldly approach Him with our current dilemmas rejoicing in the knowledge that with God all things are possible!
In conclusion, the mustard seed parable is a powerful reminder that we need to have faith in God, even when things are tough or we don’t understand what He’s doing. When we trust God, He will help us overcome any obstacles in our lives. This parable can encourage us to have hope when things seem impossible – with God, anything is possible! If you’re struggling with your mental health, trust the Father in all circumstances, turn back to the Father, repent, and study the whole Bible from Genesis 1:1 to the last word in Revelation.
As you listen to this lesson today, YHWH is planting and growing a seed of faith in you today. Remember those verses above and allow the Holy Spirit to help you grow to a deeper level of faith and step out to follow him.
In Matthew 28:20, Yeshua reminds us and says, I am always with you.
